Artist and designer Shannon Clamp Alig spent her early years in southern Louisiana before moving with her family to North Little Rock, Arkansas at age 10. Defined as a gifted child both academically and artistically she would constantly seek to challenge herself in all aspects of learning.
Alig began her formal art education in college alongside a parallel degree in Marketing. A year of studies abroad in France and the UK would however persuade her to focus her interests in the art of one’s surroundings. She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Interior Design.
While her career flourished as an interior designer as well as a professional lighting designer, Alig began painting again when ideas for artwork and the need to create art in its pure form overwhelmed her. Alig uses the same elements and concepts from her design work and applies them to her art. Her expressive contemporary paintings resonate in the aesthetic with an emphasis on color, light, and texture.
Alig moved to Washington, Illinois from Portland, Oregon in 2006. She lives happily with her husband, Eric, and two young children, Osric and Sabine. The artist currently divides her time between family, art, and duties as President of the Washington Fine Arts Society. Her work can be seen in local galleries as well as the Annual Washington Fine Arts Festival.
